The Glass Menagerie

By: Tennessee Williams Directed by: Ariel N. Wolf Translated by: Ido Ricklin

About the show

A moving and lyrical family drama about memory, dreams and the pursuit of happiness.

The plot of the play follows the Wingfields – Amanda and her two adult children, Tom and Laura, whose father has recently left the family to start a new life.

The three struggle with their disappointment-filled routine, each escaping into their own parallel world of fantasy and illusion.

Tom, the artistic son, flees at night to the movie theater; his introverted sister, Laura, retreats into her private, intimate world; while their domineering mother, Amanda, clings to a glorious past where she was young and desirable.

When a young man comes to dinner at their small apartment, the family is overcome with new hope. But the reality that the visitor brings with him threatens to fracture their delicate world and unsettle the illusions they have created for themselves.

Running time: about 105 minutes, no intermission
