Ben Bard Players present “A Picasso”, a play in one act
By Jeffery Hatcher
Hatcher’s play is a fiction, but the story is based on the very well documented aversion of the Third Reich to the “modern art” of the period.
Pablo Picasso is considered by many to be the greatest artist-painter of the 20th century. Although Spanish, he lived most of his working life in France.
October 1941, Paris is occupied by the German Reich.
Fraulein Fischer, the Cultural Attaché of the “Occupation” government, requires a “favor” of Picasso that is not in his best interest. He refuses. She has Gestapo power to force him to collaborate. But Picasso is Picasso.
So begins a brilliantly composed cat & mouse game that has surprises at every turn.
Senior Picasso is played by Howard Metz. Miss Fischer is double-cast by Miriam Metzinger & Gillian Kay.
Produced and directed by Barak Bard for Ben Bard Players.
