Mann ist Mann

A porter who goes out in order to by a fish for dinner is caught up on his way in various adventures which radically change his life and his identity.
He pretends to be a soldier, he sells an elephant which is not his, is present at his own funeral and meets an array of colourful characters which tak part in the imperial wars and cuts deals with them which lead to him losing his identity and the control over his own fate.
